Like most festivals in India and across the world, Dusshera is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil . But I sometimes wonder who defines this good or the bad. For Raavan who was defeated by Ram is still revered as king in Sri Lanka. Strictly speaking Raavan abducted Sita-Ram’s wife and for that he has been proclaimed evil with due regards.
But the fact that Ram was so much more a king and a Godly person revered by the thousands of Hindus in India ,that Raavan became so much more evil even though he was a famous king to his people. Don’t we seem to have a answer here – the more good that you do makes the good become so much better ,that ordinary may even become evil. After all the good and the bad are manifestations of the human mind and its plethora of emotions.
Many a time, we have many issues in life, maybe we are not getting the desired results at work or at business, may be we are not having joy in our personal lives with your immediate family or even in your love life. As a student you may not be getting the desired grades.
Not getting what we desire brings us to the brink of desperation and we resort to all ways –some of which are negative . Rather than focusing on our own weaknesses and working that much more harder to get where we ought , we criticize almost everything and everyone who may be doing better or is for the good as perceived by you. Slowly slowly this negativity manifests in our mind as good and proclaims everything around you as evil.
But isn’t this evil more evil than evil could ever be. Only way out is acceptance of the current state, agreeing to the fact that someone is doing better for a reason ,forgiving those whom we think have wronged us and the urge to do that much for better for yourself than to pull someone else down. For what were good without a dash of generosity, forgivance and self belief.
Life will never be the same for each one of us ,some will be destined to reach that much higher ,but isn’t his life his and yours your own. What if you choose to simply ignore where he/she is today but looked at where you were some time back and where you are today. There in will lie the victory of your good over your evil.
This dusshera may you have the good strength to kill the evil within !!
